FAQ's

1. Why doesn’t my fan put out enough air?

Many fans have a small motor that can’t handle blades with a large pitch. A quality ceiling fan will have a blade pitch of atleast 14 degrees. That will be sure to keep you cool during the summer heat!

2. Why does a dimmer get warm?

Electricity is going through the dimmer and it is acting as a terminal that distributes power. The terminal tends to get warm as it is taking a big load of energy and harnessing it. A little warmth is normal.

3. Do they make battery operated art lamps?

We have yet to find one that is efficient in the means of battery life and intensity. We expect to see one in the near future riding the new wave of the LED revolution.

4. Why do people have bad luck in dimming fluorescents?

Commonly the ballasts are not compatible with the dimmers. Dimming fluorescents is very temperamental and is not something that we recommend.

5. Why is my fan making a humming noise?

One possible explanation is that you may have a slide speed control. For controlling fan speeds, it is necessary to have a “fixed click” speed control.

6. When I put a 3 way light bulb in my lamp, why doesn’t the bulb only go on one setting?

The bulb is not screwed down far enough.

7. What is the proper height for hanging a chandelier over a dining room table?

The bottom of the chandelier should be 32”-36” over the table

8. What is the function of recessed lights?

Recessed lights are usually quite functional by providing most or all of the general lighting in a space. For example, the light provided by a recessed light or a series of recessed lights can help one safely negotiate a long hallway. Recessed lights also can provide good task lighting when they are used directly over a kitchen counter top, for example.

9. What can cause a fluorescent lamp to flicker for more that a second or two when first energized?

One cause may be a bad ballast. Another reason could be a bad bulb.

10. Is it bad to directly touch a light bulb when installing it?

The only lamp that should not be touched is a halogen bulb. The oils on a person’s hand dramatically shortens the life of the bulb.
